There are now updated fairytale audio books for the fantasy book The Wicked Wolves of Windsor and other Fairytales. A few are Grimm-dark so check out the offerings below.

New audio book versions of my fairytales

My book, The Wicked Wolves of Windsor and other fairytales, includes rather a wide style in fairytales. I wrote the book as an experiment and wanted to stretch my wings as a writer by trying different formats and perspectives. Some of the stories quickly became standouts to readers and I’ve wanted to highlight those favorites.

When I stared working on audio dramas for the sweet fairytale series (Price of a Rose and Dance of Hearts), I really got excited and about doing the same for The Wicked Wolves of Windsor and Queen’s Favorite, two of the most exciting tales from the larger collection.

An audio drama takes various character voices and puts them together in what gives the feel of an old radio play. While a one-person narration can be fantastic for listeners, especially if you have an accomplished narrator, an audio drama puts you in the action. It can include sound effects and music even!

The Wicked Wolves of Windsor

This post WW1 Red Riding Hood story was one of the earliest pieces I wrote for the collection When I brought it to a new writer’s group I had joined and it sparked quite a response, and it became the tale I named the collection after.

It features the wonderful voice talents of the original narrator of the collection, Corrine Davies, and the additional character voice actor, Richard Browning as the wolf and the father. The ebook and audio drama bundle set can be found at my website store.

This sample (below) is from the original audio book narrated only by Corrine Davies, and you can hear the difference of one narrator verses several. Both options are available at my website: the unabridged collected tales narrated by Corrine Davies, or the audio drama with Corrine and Richard. Both buy options includes the ebook so you can read or listen.

Queen’s Favorite

I shared Queen’s Favorite with a friend of mine who after reading it told me “this IS something.” It remains one of my personal favorites and the ending always gives me a little shiver when Malika does her victory cry.

The new audio drama includes voices by Corrine Davies, and the additional character voice actor, Richard Browning. The ebook and audio drama bundle set can be found at my website store.

The costs of making an audio book

Making an audio version of your book IS expensive and it takes time (1-3 months or longer for some). Some authors are now using AI to narrate their books. I will NEVER go that route. It’s cutting out the creative narrator who works hard to make a book sound fantastic.

Another route is authors who narrate the book themselves. I have a decent speaking voice but my books have complex pronunciations, sometimes with French or German words, and I wouldn’t want for you to hear me fumbling around with that!

I never did make my investment back from The Wicked Wolves of Windsor and it begs the question on why continuing to invest into audio?

The audio dramas were simply fun to make. Once I started making the sweet fairytales into audio dramas, I couldn’t stop! It was more of a passion project for me and I am very happy with the end products

I do believe there is a growing market for audio books that will continue to expand. I also hope that as I add more books to my name, readers who find me will want more and will discover the audio books, so I do see them as a long-term investment.
