Let me introduce ourselves! – here is our first, introductory podcast with myself and husband, Miles, discussing fantasy and science fiction books, authors and writing.
Discussion of a few of our favorite writers and what they do best. Why shapeshifting wolves are really just assholes. The sex word is mentioned a few times. Why stereotypical characters and plots will lose you readers.
Although most podcasts will cover fantasy and science fiction genres, most of what I discuss can apply across the board to all fiction writing.
Season 1 will feature the six stories in Wicked Wolves and other fairytales with quotes from the stories, background on why I wrote them, and how they relate to other, more traditional, fairtyales.
Episode Rating: does include some language. 14+ recommended. No spoilers (some eps will have spoilers and I will note them as such).
SHOWNOTES FOR EP 1
Books and authors mentioned in this podcast:
⦿ Martha Wells – Murderbot series. Traditionally published and small press published.
⦿ Lois McMaster Bujold – Five Gods Series (i.e. Paladin of Souls, The Hallowed Hunt, the Penric short story series). Mostly traditionally published, but has self-published the Penric series.
⦿ Julie E. Czerneda – Web Shifters and Trade Pact Universes. As far as I know only traditionally published. I find her later stuff a bit heavy for me.
⦿ Patricia Briggs – Hurog duology, Dragon Bones and Dragon Blood. As far as I know only traditionally published.
⦿ P.M. Griffin – Star Commandos series (my personal favorites are Colony in Peril, Pariah, War Prince). Author was traditionally published, now is indie published.
⦿ Steve Miller and Sharon Lee – Liaden Universe (favorites are their earlier work now compiled in The Dragon Variation and The Agent Gambit). Author was traditionally published, now publishes both as traditional and indie.
⦿ James White – Hospital Sector General series. Author is deceased, however his estate has re-released his books via ebook format. Was traditionally published.
⦿ Ilona Andrews – the Kate Daniels series. This series was traditionally published. I believe they do issue short stories as indies (but don’t quote me on that).
⦿ Mystery Elizabeth Peters – Amelia Peabody series.
⦿ Oh there IS a SPACE VAMPIRE book and I’ve read it! C.S. Friedman The Madness Season.
The Book Wordy podcast publishes weekly and is about 30 minutes in length, give or take 10 minutes. See all the episodes right here on the Podcast page. This is a new medium for me so thanks for your patience while we get it all figured out!
